The Combination Airway Buffing Wheels are expertly crafted using multiple mill treatments and fabric construction methods to offer wheels with distinct stiffness levels that catering to the specific needs of different metals. Whether you're working with aluminum, stainless steel, or other metals, our range of buffing wheels provides exceptional performance and results.
Our "Maverick" Airway Buffing Wheel is constructed using an extra-stiff Red mill treat cotton cloth and a semi-stiff Pink mill treat cotton cloth. It boasts a robust 20-ply construction and is most appropriate for the "cutting" stage on both aluminum and stainless steel. This particular Airway Buffing Wheel should be run at approximately 3,500 RPM and used with cutting compounds such as our T88 or T121 Tripoli Bars, our Q36 Illudium cut-and-color bar, or our new Wild Berry and Wild Cherry Pink Compounds. Its primary function as a "cutting" buff is backed up by an added measure of finishing properties to allow for a broader spectrum of metal finishing.
Our "Sundown" Airway Buffing Wheel is constructed using an Orange mill treat cotton cloth and a Yellow mill treat cotton cloth. It employs a 16-ply #2 construction (which adds density to the wheel) and is most appropriate for the "color" stage on both aluminum and stainless steel. This particular Airway Buffing Wheel should be run at approximately 2,500-3,000 RPM and used with color compounds such as our Green Tripoli or Yellow Deluxe Polishing Compounds.
Our "Jester" Airway Buff incorporates our Purple and Yellow Buffing Wheel fabrics to provide a more subtle cut with the yellow fabric that is followed the softer purple fabric to help create a more seamless transition before moving on to your finishing buffing wheel and compound bar combination.
The Hollywood Airway Buffing wheel consists of a blend of fine and coarse Unbleached Muslin (UBM) to be used as a semi-finish buffing wheel on flatter, broader surfaces.
Our Cyclone Airway Buffing Wheel is a blend of Unbleached Muslin UBM and soft Domet Flannel fabrics that work together to give you a high-level shine when paired with one of our finishing bars.
Yes! Edge buffing is a technique commonly used in conjunction with an angle grinder, a buffing wheel, and compound. Achieve a shiny, polished edge effortlessly. See below:
The buffing wheel should be spinning at it’s normal speed and the rake should be held securely when held up to a stationary bench grinder or lathe. On a grinder, please exercise caution when raking. We recommend using your feet to hold the rake to the ground and holding the angle-grinder to it.
Raking your buff removes hardened and burned on polishing and buffing compound from the edges of your buffing wheel. Compound build up can reduce the efficiency of the buffing wheel while also creating a rougher surface. If you notice a significant decrease in the residual metal dust produced when buffing, rake the buffing wheel and reapply a small amount of metal polishing compound.
