Ensure proper Surface Preparation with these 6" Film Hook & Loop Sanding Discs from Sunmight.

Sunmight's Hook & Loop Sanding Discs are ideal for achieving a smooth even working surface prior to beginning the polishing process. Sanding progressively with finer grits is the key to concealing imperfections like pits, scratches, and burns, ultimately leading to a flawless, mirror-like polish. These sanding discs are expertly crafted to be an integral part of the aluminum and stainless steel polishing processes. Depending on the backing/material, the discs are available in grits ranging from 120, 220, 320, 400, 600, and 800 grit.

    Choosing the Right Material

Sunmight's Film Sanding Discs feature a strong film backing that allows for a more even surface finish and longer life. Additionally, the durable backing will allow them to hold up better during corner and edge sanding.

    Choosing the Right Grits

While we offer coarse grits like 120, 180, and 220, the most common grits for metal polishing are often 320 and 400. The Brown Tripoli Compound for aluminum polishing (cutting stage on aluminum) and the Black Magic Compound for stainless polishing (cutting stage on stainless) can effectively remove scratches from sandpaper with a 400 grit. Therefore, transitioning to a 600 or 800 grit is typically necessary only for professionals seeking a show-quality shine.

    Pro Tips for Effective Sanding

When working with aluminum or stainless steel, it's crucial to start with the least aggressive grit to address imperfections on your workpiece, whether it's a gas tank, Alcoa wheel, bumper, fender, or any other metal surface. If you're dealing with pits or scratches on a tank, begin with a less aggressive grit like 220 or 320. If this successfully removes the initial imperfections, you can progress through the sanding stages. In most cases, it's rare to need a coarser grit (example: 120 grit), except for more extreme situations in which the surface is heavily worn or weathered.

    Selecting the Perfect Sander

To complement your sanding process before using buffing wheels and buffing compounds for metal polishing, we recommend two outstanding sanders suitable for use with our sanding discs. Choose the one that best suits your needs:

    1. Corded Orbital Sander - Craftsman Random Orbit Sander, priced around $55.

    2. Cordless Orbital Sander - Milwaukee Cordless Orbital Sander, available around $120.

Both options provide excellent quality and seamlessly work with our sanding discs to help you achieve outstanding results in your metal polishing projects.
